Pre-school Program
A fun and interactive Pre-school program is offered at LWCA for children aged 3.5 years and older. This program runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays, September through May. One class is held in the mornings from 8:45 – 11:30 and is for 3.5 year olds and young 4 year old children. The afternoon class runs from 12:15 – 3:00 and is for children who are already a good solid 4 years old.
The program has been designed to meet pre-schooler’s needs intellectually, physically, emotionally and especially spiritually. A promise of God is taught each month and is the center of prayer, craft, story, songs and many of the games. We have a pen pal pre-school in Romania with whom we send projects back and forth. The program enables children to learn about Jesus and stories from the Bible, about prayer, scripture and how to be a “Jesus friend”.
Children will engage in fun learning activities such as crafts, games, songs and physical activity. This program has been established in conjunction with the kindergarten and grade one teachers so that the method of teaching is consistent. The learning concepts include basic skills, letter recognition and sound, formation and printing. At the completion of pre-school your child will be well prepared to be successful in kindergarten.
Occupational therapy plays a large role in the pre-school classroom. Methods are applied to learn the formation of letters in various tactile and fun mediums such as sand, chocolate pudding and play dough. Also, there are a variety of activities to increase the hand strength that is necessary for printing.
Pre-schoolers are involved in a “Reading Buddy” program with the grade 2 and 3 students at Living Waters. The students come and read with the pre-schoolers once a week. This really nurtures a love for reading in students, and fosters mentorship among older and younger students.
Further, the children will learn about various roles in their community and they will have a chance to go on field trips to places such as the fire station, veterinary clinic, Dairy Queen and the farm. Special guests will also come to pre-school to do puppet shows and various other fun activities. The pre-schoolers go regularly to the gymnasium for physical fun. They will be going to our beautiful new kitchen for the “giggling gourmet café” where they will make silly snacks!
The pre-school facility has undergone a recent expansion! The colorful room is equipped with a bathroom, two large permanent play structures, place centres, library and a wide variety of toys. Your child will certainly have a great time here!
There is a permanent aide in the pre-school classroom, for each class. Parent volunteering is not a requirement; however, parents are welcome to be involved in the classroom throughout the year. All supplies for pre-school are included in the fees. There is no fundraising required.
